Prehospital medicine demands decisions before the diagnosis is complete. I combine history, examination, physiology, protocol, and experience to identify immediate threats, establish priorities, and choose interventions that are proportionate to the patient’s condition.

ANTICIPATE THE NEXT PROBLEM.

Preparation is a clinical skill. I emphasize equipment readiness, backup plans, early recognition of deterioration, and careful management during long transports or delayed access to additional ALS resources.

LEAD WITHOUT LOSING THE TEAM.

The paramedic may carry final clinical responsibility, but excellent care is never a solo performance. I communicate expectations clearly, invite useful observations, support and encourage my EMT or paramedic partner, and coordinate respectfully with fire, law enforcement, medical control, and hospital teams.

CARE FOR THE PERSON, NOT ONLY THE PHYSIOLOGY.

Technical competence matters most when paired with compassion. Patients and families deserve honest explanations, preserved dignity, calm reassurance, and the confidence that someone is paying attention to both the emergency and the human being experiencing it.

REVIEW. LEARN. IMPROVE.

I value robust documentation, chart review, thoughtful case discussion, protocol improvement, and training that connects evidence to field reality. It is vital for me to  remain teachable and humble, even after years of experience.
